TRANSATLANTIC TIES - Is Europe Still Number One for the United States?

18. Mai 2012

Germany’s international broadcaster cordially invites you to the recording of the TV-Debate

https://p.dw.com/p/14xgB

In his first year in office, President Obama declared America an “Asia Pacific nation.” Since then, Europe’s image in the United States has deteriorated: the Euro crisis and perceptions of “European Socialism” have shaped American public opinion. Have the US and Europe grown so different that the Old World is losing its place as the United States’ number one economic, military and cultural ally?

Political heavyweights Senator Tom Daschle and former German Secretary of Defense Volker Rühe will step in the Auditorium of the Corcoran Gallery of Art to debate these questions and more. Experts Helga Flores Trejo and Soren Dayton will add insight from both sides of the Atlantic.

And we want you to vote on the question: Is Europe still Number One for the United States?
The moderator will take questions from the audience.

  • Volker Rühe (CDU), former German Secretary of Defense
  • Tom Daschle (Democrat), former Senate Majority Leader
