Eleven people were killed in a bus accident near the French Belgian border early on Saturday. The bus, carrying 49 mostly young German and French passengers, crashed into a barrier after the driver lost control for reasons that are still under investigation. The bus was operated by the Hamburg-based company Rainbow Tours, which has ruled out a technical fault as the cause of the accident. German Transport Minister Manfred Stolpe travelled from Berlin to the accident scene. After surveying the damage, he renewed his plea for a mandatory seatbelt law for bus passengers. The bus, which left Munich on Friday, was en-route to Paris.
