A sharp economic downturn is coming, which is why several major carmakers are reacting to a sharp decline in sales by throttling production. Some anaylsts expect car sales to fall 20 percent next year. That is going to have a knock-on effect on the thousands of smaller companies that supply parts to the automotive industry.
