An app to evade the morality police

In Iran, the morality police ensure that people comply with the Islamic code of conduct. Many Iranians fear being stopped by the "Gashte Ershad." Now the app Gershad reveals the locations of their mobile checkpoints.

The Gershad app warns Iranians where the country's morality police have set up mobile checkpoints. In Iran, women in particular risk being fined or even prosecuted for not abiding by the Islamic Republic's strict dress code. To prevent this from happening, tens of thousands of Iranians have downloaded Gershad to their smartphones -- even though the app has been officially blocked by Iranian authorities.
