Arsenal attacking-midfielder Mesut Ozil has been named in a six-man shortlist of players nominated for the Professional Footballers' Association Players' player of the year award.

The German international is the only member of his team nominated for the prestigious Premier League award, with Jamie Vardy, N'Golo Kante, Riyad Mahrez, Harry Kane and Dimitri Payet making up the other contenders.

Ozil has been a regular performer for the North London side throughout a turbulent year which has seen Arsene Wenger's side once again bow out of the Champions League at the last 16 stage and miss out on a Premier League title. Yet despite his team's ups-and-downs the playmaker has consistently been one of the top performers in the English top division.

The 27-year old has picked up six goals and 18 assists in 30 league goals. Should he pick up one more assist in the club's remaining six league games, he will match the all-time Premier League record.
