Remi Garde out as Aston Villa manager

March 30, 2016

Aston Villa manager Remi Garde has left the club after less than five months in charge. The midlands side are bottom of the English Premier League and almost certainly face relegation.

Garde's departure from Aston Villa comes after he took charge of the Premier League's bottom team in November.

The club say the departure was by "mutual consent" even though Garde's contract ran through 2019.

"The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Remi for all his efforts during a difficult period and wish him well in the future," Villa said on its website.

Aston Villa, which will play Chelsea on Saturday, has won only three of its 31 league matches. A 1-0 defeat on March 19 at Swansea was Villa's sixth straight loss.

The club says Assistant Manager Eric Black will be in temporary charge as American owner Randy Lerner searches for his third manager in less than two years.

Garde's departure comes after chief executive Tim Fox and sporting director Hendrik Almstadt both left the club earlier this month.
