Bavaria's fairy tale king, Ludwig II loved to meet his cousin, the Empress Elisabeth of Austria, or "Sisi", on romantic Rose Island in Lake Starnberg.

Alexander Hartl is the only person who lives permanently on Lake Starnberg in Bavaria. Open to visitors since 2003, it features a rose garden designed by Peter Josef Lenné, botanical rarities and a guest house. A ferry takes visitors from the west side of the lake to the island from May to October.
