Lahm refuses to rule out early retirement

November 9, 2016

Philipp Lahm has refused to rule out retiring at the end of the season. The Bayern Munich captain, who has already quit the national team, has a year left on his contract but says his fitness will dictate his future.

The full back told Wednesday's edition of German publication 'Sport Bild' that he'd been considering his retirement plans for some time and the situation had not changed.

"There are still seven months left in the season during which a lot can happen. I won't make my future dependant on titles but listen to my body and then decide," Lahm said.

Lahm has a contract at Bayern until June 30, 2018. Apart from a two-year loan to Stuttgart he has spent his entire career with the reigning Bundesliga champions, winning every title on offer with them.

He retired from international football after reaching its pinnacle when he captained Germany to victory in the 2014 World Cup.
