Bayern win Club World Cup

As expected, the best team in Germany and Europe claimed its fifth title of 2013, defeating Morocco's Raja Casablanca in the final in Marrakesh. It was a successful conclusion to an extraordinary year.

Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League winners Bayern were huge favorites coming into the match against Raja, who qualified on the basis of being the best team from the host country.

Raja had the home fans on their side, and they had beaten three FIFA confederation winners on their way to the final, but the difference in quality between the two teams was evident from the very start. And in the seventh minute, central defender Dante cleaned up after a corner kick to put Bayern ahead.

A quarter of an hour later, David Alaba pulled the ball back for Thiago to hammer home from the edge of the penalty area.

With a 2-0 lead at their backs, Munich began to showboat and nearly paid for their over-confidence. In minute 38, Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer passed straight to Chemsiddine Chtibi, but the Moroccan spurned the open goal.

After the break, Bayern seemed to forget they were engaged in a competitive football match. Xherdan Shaqiri rattled the crossbar once, but otherwise Munich were fairly polite guests and merely defended their 2-0 lead.

They even invited Mouhcine Metouali to have a wide-open go from close range in the dying minutes, but he barely kept the ball in the stadium. So 2-0 was the final score, and Bayern acquired a last bit of silverware to take with them into their winter vacation.
