Berlin Revises Afghanistan Strategy

After the US and Great Britain, this week it was Germany’s turn to appoint a special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan. The appointment of the ambassador to India Bernd Mützelburg on Monday caused a controversy in Germany, with local media claiming that Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier had not consulted Chancellor Angela Merkel about the choice of candidate for the post.
