'Biker gang' shooting at motorcycle expo in Colorado

A "shooting and stabbing melee" between alleged biker gangs has erupted at a motorcycle expo in Colorado, killing at least one person and wounding several others. Police say an investigation is still ongoing.

A motorcycle expo in the US state of Colorado was shut down after one person was killed and numerous people were wounded, local authorities said Saturday.

"During the disturbance, there were shots fired and at least one stabbing," Denver spokeswoman Raquel Lopez told reporters, adding that the investigation was still on going.

"We do have one deceased party and multiple other victims. At this time, we do not have anyone in custody."

The Denver Post described the incident as a "shooting and stabbing melee," and cited an anonymous witness as saying that the quarrel was started by rival biker gangs. The witness asked not to be named for fear of retaliation.

The Denver Health Medical Center said at least seven people were brought in by paramedics, with one deceased, three in critical condition and three others in serious condition. The hospital was temporarily shut down, with precautionary measures put in place by local police, but returned to normal operations later in the afternoon.

The Colorado Motorcycle Expo dubs itself as one of the largest motorcycle events in the US.

Biker gang violence usually stems from turf wars, as was the case during a biker shootout in Texas that left nine people dead.
