Israeli soldiers wounded

Four Israeli soldiers have been wounded by an explosion in a rare incident along Israel's northern border with Lebanon. The Lebanese army said the Israelis had ventured 400 meters inside Lebanon's border.

Israel refused to elaborate on Wednesday after four of its soldiers were wounded during "overnight activity" near the country's border with Lebanon.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wished the wounded soldiers speedy recoveries, adding that the country would continue to defend Israel's borders.

'Inside Lebanon'

Lebanon's state-run National News Agency said the soldiers were wounded by a landmine detonated inside Lebanon.

Al-Mayadeen, a television station close to the Iranian-backed Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah, said the explosion happened inside the Lebanese border village of Labbouneh.

The Israeli army said the injured were taken to hospital and an investigation into the incident had been launched.

Hezbollah fought the Israeli army in southern Lebanon for some two decades until Israel withdrew in 2000. The two sides fought a 34-day war in 2006.
