British Author Wins Scholl Literary Prize

British author Mark Roseman on Monday became the recipient of this year’s Scholl literary prize. The award, named after Hans and Sophie Scholl, two German college students executed by the Nazis for their resistance efforts, is awarded each year by the Bavarian Association of Publishers and Booksellers in Munich. Roseman was honored for his book A Past in Hiding: Memory and Survival in Nazi Germany. The tome traces the life of Marianne Strauss, a German Jew who survived the Holocaust in hiding. Strauss’ story described the courage of Germans who dared to offer their homes as hiding places for Jews trying to escape certain persecution.
