Davis Van OpdorpDecember 12, 2015

Matchday 16 in the Bundesliga saw another record for Bayern, an unwelcome surprise for Wolfsburg and a first for Hoffenheim under Huub Stevens. Here is Saturday's round-up.

Bayern Munich 2-0 Ingolstadt
(Lewandowski 65', Lahm 75')

These two were rivals before football was the sport in Germany, and the match lived up to the Bavarian derby it was. Ingolstadt held Bayern scoreless as long as they could, but Robert Lewandowski eventually broke the deadlock in the second half with a falling shot on an open goal. Philipp Lahm also scored his first goal in over a year as Bayern Munich clinched their 5th winter championship in a row.

Wolfsburg 1-1 Hamburg
(Müller 21' - Arnold 78')

Though Wolfsburg got a big result in midweek, they continued their slide down the Bundesliga table. Pierre-Michel Lasogga seized on a mistake by Dante, with Nicolai Müller eventually finishing off the chance. Maxi Arnold found a late equalizer, but Wolfsburg have now dropped points in each of their last three Bundesliga games.

Werder Bremen 1-1 Cologne
(Vestergaard 4' - Svento 79')

Though Bremen got a point out of their clash against Köln, they could and perhaps should have done more to move further up the table. Anthony Ujah had a chance to double the lead after Vestegaard found an early opener, but Timo Horn batted away the Bremen striker's penalty. Cologne's equalizer came after a penalty-area scramble and was their first goal in 368 minutes.

Hoffenheim 1-0 Hannover
(Schmid 30')

Hoffenheim finally got their first victory under Huub Stevens, and they only needed one goal to do it. Jonathan Schmid redirected a cross from Kevin Volland inside the far post to down a Hannover side who deserved much more than an empty-handed trip home. Hoffenheim jumped ahead of Stuttgart to get off the bottom of the table, and pulled Hannover closer to the relegation zone in the process.

Darmstadt 0-4 Hertha Berlin
(Ibisevic 12', 50', Plattenhardt 26', Kalou 77')

Nothing appears to be slowing down Hertha Berlin at the moment. Vedad Ibisevic took most of his chances to give Hertha a comfortable cushion, and Marvin Plattenhardt scored his first goal of the season with a clinical free kick. Salomon Kalou added one in added time - his seventh away goal of the season - as Berlin jumped up to third place ahead of the evening clash between Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Leverkusen 5-0 Gladbach
(Kießling 30', 66', Chicharito 63', 75', 76')

Leverkusen showed the ruthlessness that was missing in their draw against Barcelone during the week, dispatching of Gladbach thanks to a fantastic pair of solo performances from Stefan Kießling and Chicharito. It was the Leverkusen legend who made the breakthrough and in the second half, Roger Schmidt's men ran away with the game in furious fashion. Gladbach, without Fabian Johnson, were seemingly still suffering from their European hangover.
