Germany's conservative opposition parties have called for a long-term ad campaign to boost tourism in Berlin. The campaign should anchor a positive picture of the capital in the minds of people in Germany and around the world, explained the parliamentary group of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its Bavarian sister party, the Christian Social Union (CSU). The campaign would require the federal government to establish a three-year special project group to come up with strategies, with funding coming from the government's budget for publicity. Due to its already high level of debt, the city-state of Berlin can't afford to carry out the project without help from the federal level, the parliamentary group argued, adding that it will submit its proposal -- titled "Marketing for the Capital City Berlin" -- to parliament after the summer break.
