Chinese AIDS Activist Makes Her Voice Heard

The perception of HIV/AIDS has changed in China. But in some provinces, authorities still do not want people to mention a blood plasma scandal that infected thousands. One activist will not keep her voice silenced.

AIDS is still a taboo topic in China

The number of people contracting the AIDS virus in China is rising and infections are spreading from high-risk groups to the general population.

In China, one woman has done a great deal to change perceptions and attitudes about HIV/AIDS. But the authorities in her home province, Henan, still treat her like a criminal. Despite the harassment and her old age, the retired doctor continues to work tirelessly for the cause.
