The effects of climate change, caused by carbon dioxide emissions trapping heat in the earth's atmosphere, include higher sea levels, changes in seasonal patterns and an increase in the frequency of extreme weather events.

While scientists continually research to build a better picture of the future, most researchers agree that humanity needs to significantly reduce its CO2 emissions worldwide.

With international climate negotiations progressing only slowly and a growing world population competing for finite resources, the need for sustainable and climate-friendly planning is increasing.
