Full-time work should pay a living wage, says German Chancellor Angela Merkel. But over a million Germans who work still need state support to survive. Many branches of industry already have a set minimum wage in Germany. But the issue of a nationwide minimum wage continues to be a sticking point in the government’s coalition negotiations.
