Controversial Anti-Semitism Report Posted Online

A divisive EU study on anti-Semitism finds its way to the Internet after the organization that commissioned it put the kabosh on the report.

A controversial EU study on anti-Semitism, shelved after it found that Muslims and pro-Palestinian groups were behind many of the incidents reported in it, has now been posted on the Internet. Daniel Cohn-Bendit, a member of the Green Party and the European Parliament, and the European Jewish Congress, an umbrella group for Europe's Jewish organizations, have both put the report on their Web sites. Carried out by the European Union's Monitoring Center on Racism and Xenophobia (EUMC), the 112-page report was suppressed earlier this year in favor of a fresh study, to be published in 2004, after staff at the center questioned the definition of anti-Semitism and its focus on Muslim perpetrators. A press release from EUMC stated the body "considered the work undertaken by the contractors to be of poor quality and lacking in empirical evidence." (EUObserver.com)
