The head of Germany's Federal Criminal Police, Jörg Ziercke, has called for expanded authority for his agency in the fight against Islamist terrorism. Dragnet investigations like the ones after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks could help. "I can definitely envision that," Ziercke told Germany weekly Die Zeit. He also demanded an improved analysis of information that's been gathered as well as an early warning system. Additionally, German law enforcement agencies and their European counterparts should cooperate better.
