Critics Impressed by German Film at Cannes

The screening of the first German film to be in official competition at the Cannes Film Festival for 11 years has had a stunning reception. The audience of industry insiders heaped applause on the film, "Die fetten Jahre sind vorbei," (roughly translated as The Days of Plenty are Over). The official English title of the film by Austrian director Hans Weingartner is "The Edukators." After the screening, a delighted Weingartner told the press, "It was already a huge prize just to be invited," then he added, "now we are here to party." The film, which stars the 25-year-old Daniel Brühl, who shot to fame after starring in the successful "Goodbye, Lenin", tells the story of three young idealists who decide to rebel against the rich.
