Welcome Back. Cuba is preparing for celebrations to mark 50 years of the socialist state. The first Communist Party Congress in 14 years starts this Saturday. It is likely to be the last meeting of a historic generation of guerillas who fought in a series of battles that began with the CIA backed Bay of Pigs operation. Although Cuba is celebrating its victory over imperialism - there is now some recognition that modifications have to be made to its socialist model. The party congress this week-end will be discussing economic reforms - including plans to slash public sector jobs and cutting government subsidies.
