Curious Digital Rituals

Smartphones and computers rule our daily lives more than many of us realize. They've generated a number of behavior patterns that are catching the interest of sociologists and design researchers.

In his book, "Curious Rituals," Swiss design researcher Nicolas Nova lists all sorts of digital rituals. They include the "wake-up wiggle" - jostling the mouse to awaken a computer that's in stand-by mode - and the figure-eight movement used to re-calibrate an iPhone compass.
