Deutsche Post Gives in To Green Pressure

Long under pressure from environmental groups, the Deutsche Post has decided to replace the envelopes it sells at post offices to meet green concerns. At issue was the use of wood harvested by the firm Stora Enso from virgin forests in Finland, which had been used to manufacture the paper for the envelopes. There are very few such forests left in Europe – one of the few is in northern Finland and just half of it is under environmental protection. “Stora Enso, Europe’s largest paper producer, plays an important role in the destruction of the forest,” said a Greenpeace spokeman.
