German telecommunications giant Deutsche Telekom said on Thursday that it planned to invest three billion euros ($3.6 billion) over the next few years in a new fiber optics network in Germany. "It's time for new big investments again," chairman Kai-Uwe Ricke told a news conference here ahead of the official opening of the IFA technology trade fair on Friday. The new network would offer connections at 50 megabits per second and Deutsche Telekom planned to offer access to the network in Germany's 50 biggest cities by 2007, it said.
