Announcing today's demonstrations by medical workers in Stuttgart, president of the association of university hospital doctors Marburger Bund, Frank Ulrich Montgomery, reiterated doctors' requests for better working conditions. Montgomery said that federal states needed to introduce collective agreements "which would guarantee fair working conditions for doctors working in university hospitals." According to Montgomery, between three and five thousand doctors in Stuttgart are ready to take to the streets. In the last ten years, doctors have suffered a loss in actual earnings of 7.5 percent "while teachers, for instance, got three percent more." Protests of doctors from university hospitals, similar to the one taking place in Stuttgart on Tuesday, have been organized in several German cities over the past few weeks.
