Drought in California - Fields turning into deserts

California is in a state of emergency. Governor Jerry Brown calls it "perhaps the worst drought California has ever seen since records began being kept about 100 years ago." Hundreds of communities are suffering from the acute water shortage.

200,000 hectares of farmland are now lying fallow, unfit for agriculture. It's the third year in a row with below-normal rainfall. Farmers are trying to adapt and are using only drip irrigation to water their fields.
