Durant to join Curry at Golden State

Kevin Durant, the biggest prize in the NBA free agent market, has announced he is joining the Golden State Warriors. Durant will leave Oklahoma City Thunder to join up with league MVP Stephen Curry.

A four-times league scoring champion and seven-times All Star who was voted most valuable player in 2014, Durant will sign a two-year deal worth $54.3 million, according to media reports.

The Warriors won the NBA title in 2015 and were runners-up in 2016 when they won a remarkable 73 matches during the 82-game regular season.

Durant, 27, spent nine years with Oklahoma City and said it had been the most challenging time in his professional career.

As well as his current and future clubs, he met with Los Angeles Clippers, Boston Celtics, San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat before making his final decision.

“The primary mandate I had for myself in making this decision was to have it based on the potential for my growth as a player as that has always steered me in the right direction,” Durant said on the Players’ Tribune website.

“But I am also at a point in my life where it is of equal importance to find an opportunity that encourages my evolution as a man. Moving out of my comfort zone to a new city and community which offers the greatest potential for my contribution and personal growth.”
