On Monday, 7 June 2010, Deutsche Welle will make a TV broadcast of a discussion on the topic “Partnerships for Sustainability: The Year of the Green Tigers?” in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam in cooperation with the World Economic Forum on East Asia.

DW-TV’s English Service will broadcast the discussion throughout Asia under the title “World Economic Forum – The DW Debate from Ho Chi Minh City”. DW will thus become the first German television station to produce a broadcast at one of the regional meetings of the World Economic Forum.

DW Director General Erik Bettermann: “I am delighted about our cooperation with the World Economic Forum. It is a sign of appreciation by the organizers and for the Southeast Asian region. As the international broadcaster of a highly industrialized country, we have a special obligation to create international awareness about topics such as sustainability, eco-friendly management of resources and climate change.” In this connection, the Director General drew attention to the Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum from 21 to 23 June in Bonn, which this year has the title “THE HEAT IS ON – Climate Change and the Media”.

Taking part in the discussion in Ho Chi Minh City will be Frans W. Muller, Member of the Management Board, METRO AG, Stuart Dean, President of ASEAN and GE International in Malaysia, Carl Lukach, President of DuPont Asia Pacific Limited in Japan, Pham Khoi Nguyen, Vietnamese Minister for Natural Resources and Environment, and Yoon Jong-Soo, Deputy Minister of Environment, Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea. The discussion will be hosted by Amrita Cheema-Behrendt, anchor DW-TV.

The World Economic Forum on East Asia, which is taking place for the 19th time, has never before been held in Vietnam. Around 400 participants from 50 countries are expected to attend the two-day meeting, including heads of state from the region, high-ranking politicians and representatives from trade and industry. The Southeast Asian region with its high rates of growth is considered one of the main driving forces of the world economy.

In Ho Chi Minh City, Director General Bettermann will meet among other things with representatives from German companies in Vietnam and the Founder and Executive Chairman, World Economic Forum, Professor Schwab. On Saturday (5 June), Deutsche Welle and the Metro Group will host a reception.
