Deutsche Welle will be taking a closer look at the EURO 2008 tournament this summer when euromaxx goes out to gauge the mood of soccer fans from all over the world. UEFA reporter Anne-Katrin Gottschling will travel the length and breadth of the two host countries – Austria and Switzerland – during the tournament in search of stories. She’ll track team progress with the fans and experience the turmoil of emotions as squads play their way onwards – or outwards.

The finals of the 13th European soccer championships are due to kick off in Basel’s St. Jakob’s Park on June 7 with a match between Switzerland and the Czech Republic. Germany’s first match is on June 8 against Poland. euromaxx will report on EURO 2008 in a series of 10 programs three times a week, from June 6 to 29, 2008.

DW-TV also scored last week as two euromaxx series won awards at the WorldMediaFestival 2008. The 12-part “world wide video” won a gold “Intermedia-Globe” and a silver went to the six-part “Sportlich durch Europa”. With the “world wide video” series, DW-TV presented the most creative videographers in Europe and the newest trends from video portals on the Internet. In “Sportlich durch Europa”, reporter Anne-Katrin Gottschling went around the continent to test sports that are typical to each country – like frisbee golf in Sweden.

Since 2000, the WorldMediaFestival in Hamburg has been seen as an important international competition for modern media. This year, television stations and producers from 18 different countries submitted more than 300 entries.
