Deutsche Welle (DW) invites you to join the DW-World Music Award 2002 competition. As Germany's international broadcasting service announced on December 21, 2001, this is the sixth time the prize - worth € 4,000 - is being contested. All the programmes and/or people of radio stations organized or associated with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) are eligible to participate. Prizes will be awarded to those contributions that demonstrate their particular suitability to opening up world music to a broader audience through creativity, content and presentation. The programmes must have been broadcast sometime during the year 2001. Interested radio people need to apply by February 1, 2002. Further information is available on the Internet under DW-WORLD.DE.

DW jointly started the World Music Award in 1996 with the EBU. The aim was to promote the public discourse on world music and to expose a wider audience to it. World music is a fixture of DW-RADIO programming in 30 languages. In addition to news and information from Germany and Europe, DW offers reports on musical events from the cultural circles of its listeners. DW regularly invites artists to its studios and sponsors a wide variety of concerts.
At the 2001 World Music Award, first prize went to Radio Telifis Éireann (RTE Radio 1) in Dublin (Ireland). The station won the award for its production "Pipemaker's Journey", a portrait of a German bagpipe builder.
The award will be presented in the summer of 2002, as they were last year, at the "DW World Music Night" festival in Bonn.
