Dwindling Population

Home to some 5 million inhabitants, the Ruhr Valley in western Germany is one of the most densely populated areas in Europe. For now. But with an ever-decreasing number of jobs available in the coal and steel industry - once the economic backbone of the region - people are moving away. Cities like Duisburg are in decline.
