DW's Bundesliga team of the week - Matchday 21
Midfielders were the stars of Matchday 21, with plenty of them finding the back of the net. Wolfsburg's netminder came up big when needed, while Bayern's Robert Lewandowski continued his scoring ways.
Goalkeeper: Koen Casteels
Casteels didn't have much work on Saturday, but when he did he was perfect. The replacement for the injured Diego Benaglio preserved the clean sheet with a a reaction save off a Marvin Matip header in the 67th minute.
Defender: Robin Knoche
Knoche's goal put Wolfsburg up 2-0 against Ingolstadt. After that, Wolfsburg closed up shop to earn their first win in eight games.
Defender: Neven Subotic
Subotic was clearly pleased to be given his first start at the Signal-Iduna-Park in nine months. The Serbian-American said afterwards that returning to the Dortmund pitch made him feel like he had "returned to an old apartment."
Defender: Gaetan Bussmann
All three of the goals scored in the Coface Arena on Friday night were premiers. Gaetan Bussmann opened the scoring in the 33rd minute - the first of his Bundesliga career. Misfiring Schalke strikers helped Mainz collect all three points.
Defender: David Alaba
David Alaba didn't do much wrong filling in in central defense in Augsburg on Sunday. It was his defensive partner, Joshua Kimmich, who got caught out in Augsburg's only goal of the night.
Midfielder: Julian Draxler
Julian Draxler must have been happy to get out of his former home, Gelsenkichen, last weekend. His goal put Wolfsburg on the board against Ingolstadt. This contest wasn't pretty as the former Schalke man conceded later.
Midfielder: Yannick Gerhardt
The 21-year-old Gerhardt evened the score for Cologne in the 29th minute. The Billy Goats would add two more in the second half, to make the final score 3-1 and push Frankfurt closer to relegation.
Midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan
Mkhitaryan's superb strike made it eight on the season for the Armenian. It would be all Borussia Dortmund would require to beat hapless Hannover.
Striker: Artjoms Rudnevs
Rudnevs had one of the three goals that Hamburg would need to beat Borussia Mönchengladbach on Sunday. Coach Bruno Labbadia and his men were relieved to hear the final whistle after a late push from Gladbach.
Striker: Alexander Meier
The dependable Meier did what he does on Saturday, scoring his 12th of the season to fire Eintracht Frankfurt out to a 1-0 lead in Cologne. It wasn't nearly enough for the team from Germany's banking capital.
Striker: Robert Lewandowski
Lewandowski remains one of the hottest strikers in the business. In Augsburg on Sunday he put away his 20th and 21st goals of the season, moving ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in their two-way duel for the goal-scoring crown.
