Earthquake in China: More than 20000 people still missing - je 14.05.2008 08

Two days after a devastating earthquake struck central China, the authorities are just now starting to get a clearer picture of the extent of the damage. Police and military teams who parachuted into areas cut off by the destruction say that whole towns in Sichuan province were virtually wiped out by the 7.9 magnitude quake. The death toll from Monday's earthquake has soared to some 20,000, and countless more people are missing. +++syn+++
