Eiffel Tower reopens

The French capital’s most iconic landmark is being lit up in red, blue and white following Friday's terror attacks.

The Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo requested that the 324-meter-high monument be lit up in France’s national colors between nightfall and 1 am for three days (until and including Wednesday). The Latin motto 'Fluctuat nec Mergitur,' ('tossed but not sunk') will also be projected onto the monument.
Cities around the globe lit up their landmarks in France’s national colors as a show of solidarity following the attacks which left 129 people dead and 252 injured. In Berlin too, the Brandenburg Gate glowed red, blue and white.
The Eiffel Tower reopened briefly on Monday afternoon but closed again later amid concerns among staff that security was not tight enough. It is not yet known when the monument will reopen to visitors.
The Eiffel Tower attracts between 15,000 and 20,000 visitors each day. Last year, it recorded seven million visitors, making it the world’s most visited landmark for which an entrance fee is charged.
