The Global Media Forum serves as the backdrop for the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding between Deutsche Welle and African broadcasters KTN and Channels TV for the co-production of the environmental television series Eco@Africa. The series focuses on ecological innovations and best-practice examples from Africa and Europe as well as climate protection ideas from around the world.

In December 2015, DW and Channels TV had already agreed to deepen their cooperation at the global climate conference in Paris. The new MoU makes KTN an official East-African partner for the co-production of Eco@Africa, the second African broadcaster for the co-production.

“The program offers the extraordinary chance to work with two renowned partners on topics that pose urgent environmental problems,” said Limbourg in Bonn, adding: “Nigeria is one of the countries most heavily impacted by climate change.”

Eco@Africa is concerned with such subjects as the maintenance of biological diversity and the future of energy supplies; new concepts for the use of raw materials and the future of mobility are likewise covered. The series is interactive: viewers can propose their own ideas via social media. The English-language series has been on air since April on both DW and Channels TV stations.

About Kenya Television Network (KTN)
One of the leading media houses in Africa and the oldest in Kenya (founded in 1992), The Standard Group Ltd. is internationally respected, with profound influence on national and international matters. The Standard Group counts two print newspapers The Standard (Kenya's first and oldest newspaper), and The Nairobian, as well as Radio Maisha (already a partner of DW's Kiswahili program) and KTN (Kenya Television Network).

KTN is Africa's first private free-to-air television station and is number two on the national ranking list. KTN played a fundamental roll in the liberalization of media in the late 1990s. Many new radio and television stations have used KTN as a role model and they have often hired former employees of KTN in order to profit from their expertise. KTN has worked with DW as a partial programming partner since 2012. In 2015, DW held a journalistic competition with KTN as part of the launch of a DW news channel.

About Channels TV
Channels TV is the most widely seen private news service in Nigeria. The “News at Ten” is favorite news program in the country. Channels TV has been a partner of DW since July 2015.
