EU Probes German Carmaker Audi

The EU Competition Commission is investigating German carmaker Audi for alleged malpractice. German news magazine Focus reported that the commission was checking to see if the Ingolstadt-based automaker was forcing its dealers to buy cars only from the manufacturer. According to EU law, car dealers are allowed to buy cars from each other. According to the report, the dealers had complained to the EU that the manufacturer was ready to give them discounts or other perks only if they sold the cars directly to end customers. If the allegations are proved by Brussels, Audi could face a fine of millions of euros. The automaker has confirmed the EU probe. "We'll answer all the questions," an Audi spokesman said.
