Despite the Iraq war and security fears, German airports benefited from an increase in air traffic last year, according to a report released by the Consortium of German Airports on Friday. The number of passengers passing through Germany’s 18 international airports rose by 3.9 percent in 2003, to 141.9 million. Despite rocky political and financial times, the good deals to be had were behind the increase, according to the report. Those came not only from the growing number of budget airlines, but from the more established names in the business as well. The greatest increase in traffic was to European countries, which was up 4.9 percent, while oversees travel increased by 1.1 percent.
