Far-Right Supporters March in Germany

Three days after the anniversary of the death of Adolf Hitler's deputy Rudolf Hess, hundreds of supporters of Germany's far-right staged marches in Berlin and Nuremberg. About 500 extremists marched through an eastern Berlin district, police said, while some 350 supporters of the far-right National Democratic Party demonstrated in the southern city of Nuremberg, demanding "work for Germans." City officials in Nuremberg, the site of mass Nazi propaganda events and the Allied trials of leading Third Reich leaders, had tried unsuccessfully to ban the protest on the grounds that it was a substitute for a prohibited memorial march in the Bavarian town of Wunsiedel, where Hess is buried. In previous years marches in Wunsiedel have attracted several thousand neo-Nazis, but this year authorities' decision to ban the protest was upheld by Germany's highest court.
