A former German firefighter was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday for setting fire to people's homes and killing six people. A state court near Aachen convicted the 32-year-old man from Jülich, western Germany, on six counts of murder and of committing two serious arson attacks. In November 2003, the man set fire to an apartment block in his hometown. Six people, including three children, died in the arson attack. In a similar attack in August 2003, six additional victims suffered serious injuries and smoke inhalation. The man said his feeling of frustration with his life drove him to commit arson. Court psychologists said the man was aware of the consequences of his actions and should be punished.
