Misao Doi came to Germany from Japan in 1957 with a delegation of 400 mining specialists. They worked in the mines of the Ruhr Valley until 1965. Despite the initial culture shock, Doi calls those years the best of his life. He and the German wife he met here still live in the Ruhr region.
