Former FIFA executive Makudi banned from soccer

FIFA's ethics committee has banned a former FIFA executive committee member for five years for forgery. Worawi Makudi was a member of FIFA for 18 years until 2005.

The international football body's ethics committee said on Tuesday that it had found Worawi Makudi guilty of falsifying documents and refusing to cooperate with investigators. He was also fined 10,000 Swiss Francs ($10,100).

The ban from all football activities began immediately, FIFA's anti-corruption court said.

The ethics committee had opened a case after Makudi was "convicted of forgery by the Southern Bangkok Criminal Court." The case focused on Makudi's role in changing Thailand's football federation statutes in 2013, when he was campaigning for re-election as its president.

Makudi has been linked to many scandals as former head of the Football Association of Thailand (FAT). In 2015, a Thai court found him guilty in his reelection as the FAT's head.

Makudi was a member of FIFA's scandal-ridden executive committee for 18 years. In 2015, Asian federations voted him out of the position. The Thai citizen was also a close ally of former FIFA presidential candidate Mohamed bin Hammam.
