France: Equal adoption rights for all

French president François Holland wants to enable same-sex couples to marry and adopt children.

Parliament plans to debate adoption rights at the end of January. But the government in liberal, secular France didn't expect such broad resistance from the population. Hundreds of thousands of people from all over the country marched through Paris to protest against the proposal. The demonstrators did not only include representatives of the Roman Catholic Church and conservative politicians, but also Jews and Muslims.
