Passenger numbers going through Germany’s largest airport, Frankfurt, rose by 8 per cent last year, the airport said on Friday. An estimated 3.4 million travellers went through the airport gates in 2002. Freight transport also rose, up by 2.2 percent 2001 to 126,300 tons. Wilhelm Bender, chief at Frankfurt-Main airport said the reason for the increase was increased freight between Europe and the Far East as well as on Atlantic routes.
