Fraport, the operator of Frankfurt Airport, said Thursday that a record 51.1 million passengers had passed through Europe's second-busiest airport last year, an increase of 5.7 percent over the number of 2003. Passenger numbers were up particularly on routes to North America, India and China, Fraport said in a statement. The airport, the number two in Europe after London Heathrow, also handled a record volume of freight, with cargo volumes rising by 13.1 percent to a total 1.75 million tons, the statement added.
