French composer Pierre Boulez has died

The well-known composer and conductor died in Germany, aged 90. His family, his office and the Paris Philharmonic confirmed his death.

French composer and conductor Pierre Boulez died on the evening of January 5 in Germany city of Baden Baden. He was 90 years old.

"For all those who knew him and who appreciated his creative energy, his artistic rigour, his openness and his generosity, his presence will remain alive and intense," his family said in a statement from the Paris Philharmonic.

In a tweet, the Paris Philharmonic also said "we have come to learn with great sadness about the passing of Pierre Boulez."
