Following Air France's and KLM's lead, Germany's largest airline Lufthansa might consider its own merger in the future, according to the company's chief executive officer, Wolfgang Mayrhuber. "Never say never," he told the German Sunday paper Welt am Sonntag. "If such investments are the only way to create additional value for our customers, then we should revisit them." Once current merger regulations have been abolished by the European Union, Lufthansa could begin to think about investments in other airlines, Mayrhuber said. Several months ago, Lufthansa tried to merge with the ailing Swiss International Air Lines, but Swiss eventually decided to join oneworld alliance, which includes British Airways and American Airlines.
