German energy leader E.ON announced Monday it was weighing a possible bid for Scottish Power, Britain's fifth largest energy company. E.ON, which owns British electricity and gas provider Powergen, said it was "considering its options" regarding a possible offer, adding that any such initiative would likely be in the form of cash. It cautioned, however, that "there can be no assurance that a transaction will be forthcoming." In London shares in Scottish Power surged on takeover speculation, gaining 4.10 percent.
