Leicester City announced the signing of the 27-year-old Zieler, who was a member of Germany's 2014 World Cup-winning squad in a statement posted on their website on Friday.

As is customary, neither team has revealed the transfer fee, however, German media reported that Zieler had a minimum-fee release clause, which allowed him to leave Hannover for a fee of 3.5 million euros ($3.9 million).

"It feels great coming to Leicester and joining the club after they've had such a great season - it's really nice to be part of the club now," Zieler said.

"I've been shown around the training ground and it looks very good and I've been to the stadium - I heard about the great atmosphere and the great fans, so my first impression is very good."

Zieler, who made more than 200 appearances for Hannover, also has been capped six times by Germany.

"We thank Ron for his outstanding performances in the past few years. With us he matured into an above average first-division goalkeeper," Hannover's sporting director, Martin Bader said. "We wish him all the best in his new position Leicester.

It is not clear how much playing time Zieler can expect at Leicester City, where he will face stiff competition from the current No. 1, Kaspar Schmeichel.
