VW's former CFO Pötsch under investigation

November 6, 2016

Germany's public prosecutor announced that an investigation will be launched against the head of Volkswagen's supervisory board, Hans Dieter Pötsch. The former CFO is suspected of market manipulation, according to VW.

Hans Dieter Pötsch will be investigated in connection with the emissions testing scandal that has engulfed the carmaker since last year.

Pötsch, who served as VW's chief financial officer, was appointed head of the carmaker's supervisory board on October 7, 2015, one month after VW was forced to admit to the deliberate manipulation of diesel engine emissions tests. However, VW said that the investigation against him is only in reference to his prior post as CFO.

VW added that it would "support the investigation to its full extent."

Growing investigation

The scandal resulted in mass recalls as well as the resignation of its former head Martin Winterkorn. Winterkorn is already under investigation for alleged market manipulation, as is Volkswagen's current brand manager Herbert Diess.
